With online multiplayer action, Unreal Championship offers a twitchy, fast action first person shooter offering for Xbox Live. While the game does have some technical limitations, the strengths do make up for that in part.
You can play the game in single player mode, and Unreal Championship will offer you a decent menu of games but the really hearty play comes when players engage live online in the multiplayer game. Solo play does its best but one still craves the excitement of a multi mission story. You will get to create a team of allied agents that will accompany you through play. Each of these come equipped with individual skills which improve with experience as well as unique weapons. You’ll play with five teammates and you can place them in defense, offence or they can freelance in either position. Your team is set once you’ve made your selections but you can alter their playing positions and give real time commands throughout the course of play. If you wisely select a variety of skills levels and weapons, you’ll do just fine.
Different groups of peoples are endowed with a variety of attributes in relation to their skills and weapons and temperaments and this adds to the game variation. Juggernauts are slow but very tough and Nightmares get stronger and tougher the more kills they log. Automatons have a high level of agility and are hard to catch. And there are many more variations to learn and incorporate into your play.
You can collect adrenaline to increase your skills and inherent health. Regeneration, Agility, Invisibility and Berserk are all capabilities which you’ll have access through the use of adrenaline. There are also multiple control schemes to choose from and you can select the one with which you feel most comfortable. The weaponry that you’re offered in Unreal Championship are just as satisfying as those in any other game out there and there will always be something out there that makes you feel powerful while you play.
The multiplayer play is this game’s bread and butter and it gives Unreal Championship a chance to really shine. There are also numerous modes available in this variation of the game, similar to the ones that are offered in single player mode. The game modes include Survival, Capture the Flag Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Bombing Run and Double Domination. Of all of these, Bombing Run and Double Domination are the best. They promote the team skills and you’ll feel the same sense of competition of playing with your team that you might when playing sports. Bombing Run recreate this with two teams trying to move a “ball” which is a gun through the game and get it in the other team’s goal.
You’ll even get point scoring that replicates sports scoring. Team members work to keep the player transporting the gun safe and while it might take some getting used to, you’ll adjust and be onboard within a few tries. This is an energetic direction for the game to take with lots of coloured energy swirling around the player that is carrying the gun. Pulling the trigger on the gun being carried only sends it to the direction that you are pointing and thus gives it to them so make sure you focus on passing it to your own teammates as opposed to the other team. You can use offensive strategies just like in real sports to get it to the intended goal.
